Statement of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany Heiko Maas on calling for a ceasefire and putting pressure on Azerbaijan causes serious regret and surprise, noted in the commentary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan on the statement of the German Foreign Minister, APA reports.
It has been noted that calls for unilateral ceasefire do not serve for radical resolution of the conflict, but the maintenance of the status-quo that bases on the occupation.
“One of the members of the Bundestag has rightly asked German FM that “ceasefire is not a solution to the problem”. Armenia, which is an aggressor country, should be put under pressure.
The activity of the Minsk Group for nearly 30 years, of which Germany is a member too, had not served to turn the ceasefire into lasting peace, the withdrawal of Armenia’s troops from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan and returning of IDPs to their native lands. No serious measures had been taken in order to implement the requirements of 4 resolutions of the UN Security Council on immediate, complete, and unconditional withdrawal of Armenian troops from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.
We note regretfully that despite Azerbaijan appealed to Germany as a member of the OSCE Minsk Group no special activity has been shown by Germany in the field of solving the conflict.
In the document of partnership priorities between the EU and Azerbaijan, the support of the EU to territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan has been confirmed. Germany, the leading country of EU as if is unaware of this document.
Therefore, the calls for ceasefire should be accompanied by the plan envisaging withdrawal based on the concrete timetable of Armenia’s troops from Azerbaijan’s occupied territories according to requirements of resolution #853 of the UN Security Council. Only in such a case, the ceasefire may turn into sustainable peace.
We emphasize that Azerbaijan implements counteroffensive operations on its own territories in response to Armenia’s aggression.
The withdrawal of Armenia’s troops from Azerbaijan’s territories and putting an end to the occupation are the righteous demands of the Azerbaijani people.
In the present condition, we consider the statement about exerting any pressure on Azerbaijan as unfair and unjust.
We call on Germany to put pressure on Armenia, to take a fair stance in order to get withdrawn the Armenian troops from Azerbaijan’s occupied territories”, was stated.
